Every three years, the K, the world's largest trade show for the plastics industry, takes place in Dusseldorf, Germany. This year ELMET is still strongly represented and will not only showcase on four different stands its new products for the injection molding of two-component liquid silicone rubbers (LSR) but will also demonstrate live a number of applications for its systems, with the machines up and running. One of the highlight on the ELMET stand in Hall 12/E49-5 will be the new multi-component dosing system TOP 5000 P for the series manufacture of demanding parts, in which ELMET has raised the bar in matters of operating comfort, safety and reliability.
At BOY in Hall 13/A43, ELMET will demonstrate a 128-cavity LSR injection molding tool in which every cavity is directly injected by a cold runner nozzle. In this fully automatic process, which creates no production scrap, single-wire seals of silicone (Silopren LSR 3186 from MOMENTIVE) are produced on a BOY 80 E.
At ENGEL, ELMET will show in Hall 15/C58 the production of a pressure reservoir diaphragm on a victory 160 combi multi-component injection molding machine without tie bars. After the injection of the core and frame of glass fiber-reinforced polybutylene terephthalate (Celanex 3300 from Celanese), a robot (viper 40 from ENGEL) transfers it to the LSR injection molding tools with needle valve technology from ELMET. There, a membrane of a self-adhesive, very fast-reacting silicone rubber (ELASTOSIL LR 3070/10 A/B from WACKER), is molded in place to connect the core to the frame.
At MOMENTIVE, ELMET will demonstrate in Hall 13/B31 the production of a two-color egg cup. The interesting aspect here is the compact process of the two-component injection molding with only one dosing system on a one-component injection molding machine (ALLROUNDER 470 from ARBURG). For processing in the 4+4 cavity mold with needle valve technology and rotating core beam, the silicone (Silopren LSR 2670 from MOMENTIVE) is colored white and yellow.
